Welcome

WELCOME TO SPEAK CLEAR ENGLISH:

Welcome to the Speak Clear English website.  This site is dedicated to the teaching of speaking and reading American English.

American English is really a simple language to speak.  It does not contain the complicated conjugations and noun genders that many of the other languages do.  Its greatest hurdle is the complicated spelling patterns caused by the influence of other languages.

Speak Clear English uses Universal English to simplify the language.  It reduces the complicated spelling patterns to 40 easily recognized symbols that duplicate the 40 sounds of American English.  This provides a phonetic spelling of American English much like that of the British International Phonetic Alphabet.  Yet the Universal spelling closely simulates the Webster spelling of English allowing the learner to quickly transition to Webster’s spelling of English.

SOUNDS OF AMERICAN ENGLISH:

American English has 40 sounds, many of which are similar in other languages.  But many are not similar and they need to be learned and practiced to sound like a native American English speaker.

Two programs have been developed to help students learn to pronounce American English.  Learn Clear English teaches the correct pronunciation of American English in 8 lessons with 120 exercises.  This program is for students who have a basic vocabulary in English.

Speak Clear English teaches both the sounds of American English and how to read English.  This program is for the beginning student who is learning to read and speak American English at the same time.  It is for beginning readers.  It also works well with students who are having reading problems or are developmentally disabled.
